Double Wedding Ring Quilt Project Update

In my last post on my Double Wedding Ring (DWR) project, I was piecing the arcs that form the rings.

I'm still working on the arcs, but am much futher along.  I have about half of them made and am ready to try piecing the blocks.  In the photo below, the arcs are placed on my white flannel design bed; they have not been sewn to background fabric yet.

I am in a quandry over what to use for the background fabric.  I had been thinking solid white, with custom quilting for pizazz in the large, open centers.  But I found this small pink-on-white print in my stash closet.  I am considering it as it would make the design slightly less dependent on elaborate quilting.  Here's close-up...

...and how the arcs look against the print fabric.  The print is quite subtle.

What's your opinion?

  1. I love the print. It has a traditional feel but something different than the usual white. You're right, it will make the quilt far less dependent on elaborate quilting.

  2. I like them both. I guess it is going to depend on how you want to quilt it. It is all really looking soft and lovely!

  3. I like the print. The quilting is still going to show up wonderfully on it and I think it blends better with your prints. The white still would work but have a very modern feel. It all depends on what you were hoping for.

  4. I think the print looks lovely. It adds another dimension and goes really well with your other fabrics.

  5. The pink is beautiful, but it makes the quilt very feminine. If that is OK, then I'd use it. Is it for a couple?

  6. Oh my goodness, your arcs are just beautiful. As far as the background fabric goes, I think that I prefer the white fabric, because, at least in the photos, it provides a greater contrast with the wedding ring fabrics. You really do want those arcs to pop out and show up well, and not get blended in with the background fabric.

  9. Beautiful arcs! It would look great either way, but the pink patterned fabric woukd give it that "Parisian chic" look of timeless femininity, which would be stunning.

  10. I like the dainty print too. How are you feeling about using the Marti templates now that you are this far into the quilt?
